Transition Skills Training, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing low-to-no-cost access to skills training, education, and other resources for veterans and their families, with a focus on their transition out of the military and into the civilian workforce. We provide entrepreneurial coaching, skills curriculum, and access to a variety of helpful resources at no cost to the people and organizations we serve.
We also work to educate employers and executives on better practices for recruitment, hiring, and management strategies for veterans entering the civilian workplace.
When we first launched, our sole focus was on the veteran community. During the Covid shutdown, we saw the need for transition assistance grow to include many more people - first responders and healthcare workers, small business owners pivoting to stay afloat, young people navigating a changing employment culture, and anyone dealing with loss or grief, trying to find their way back. TST will continue to prioritize military families, but we will also work to make our tools and curriculum available for other groups that can benefit from our programs.
We are working with accredited psychosocial skills providers to create on-demand training that prepares military service members for a shift to the civilian workforce. We also fund research and development for curriculum that helps companies learn better practices in hiring, engaging and retaining vet employees.
We are building a state-by-state field guide for veterans and their families with links to key resources, training & tools - all in one simple portal, so vets can forge a new path forward with meaningful work and career opportunities that leverage the valuable experience and leadership skills they earned while serving our nation. We have 9 regional leaders around the US hosting Local Biz Camps, bringing small businesses and nonprofits together and including specific content for veteran- owned businesses. We encourage a good mix of civilian and vet-lead organizations to help build local connections and to create awareness in both segments. More info available at LocalBizCamp.com
